Tubbatha Reef - PHILIPPINES

Tubbataha Reef is an atoll coral reef in the Sulu Sea that belongs to the Philippines. It is a marine sanctuary protected as Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park. The reef is composed of two atolls, North and South Reefs. Each reef has a single small islet that protrudes from the water. The atolls are separated by a deep channel 8 kilometers wide. Over one thousand species, including many that are endangered, can be found at on the reef. These include manta rays, lionfish, tortoises, clownfish and sharks. (source)

MANILA, Philippines — A three-year-old training program developed in the Philippines by Sun Microsystems in tandem with local academicians has attracted about 12 percent of the local universities and tertiary schools in the country, executives said.

About 273 schools out of 1,600 universities and tertiary schools are now members of the Java Education and Development Initiative (JEDI) of Sun Microsystems, said Matt Thompson, director of Sun Developer Network and Open Source Programs Office of Sun Microsystems.

MANILA, Philippines — A Pasay City school filed Monday a civil case against software firm Microsoft Corp. and its local subsidiary, Microsoft Philippines, for alleged illegal distribution of copyrighted material.

The case stemmed from Microsoft’s allegedly unauthorized and illegal “digital copying” and distribution of a locally developed manual on the use of Microsoft Office. Ironically, Microsoft has been at the forefront of attempting to curb the illegal distribution of its own copyrighted software in the Philippines. The company is a member of the Business Software Association, an organization which in turn works with the Optical Media Board and the Pilipinas Anti-Piracy Team to conduct raids on copyright-infringing software in the country.
